The following Frequently Asked Questions are based on various topics related to the Queer People of Color Conference. If you are confused about any topic and your questions are not addressed in the following f.a.q. feel free to e-mail us via this link

When is the QPOC Conference?
  • April 8-10, 2011. The conference opens Friday at 6pm and closes Sunday at 1:30pm. For more information, visit the Schedule page.
Where is the QPOC Conference?
  • UC Riverside is hosting the conference. Visit the Maps page for more information.
What’s the best way to use air travel to attend the QPOC Conference?
Who may attend the QPOC Conference?
  • The conference is organized primarily for people on college campuses (students, staff and faculty). Community members are also welcome to attend. A Saturday high school youth conference track and K-12 Educators/Administrators drive-in conference are also offered.
Can out-of-state students attend?
  • Yes! We welcome students from any state.
Can high school students attend?
How much does it cost to attend? 
  • The cost is $25 per campus delegation (NOT per person), whether a campus sends 1 person or 100 people. 
  • The cost is $25 per Community Member (adult individuals not affiliated with a college). 
  • High school students may attend for FREE the Saturday "Youth Pride Connections" conference track.
  • K-12 educators and administrators may attend for FREE the Saturday "Best Practices for Creating Safe & Accepting Schools" Conference.

    When does Registration open?
    • Registration is now open for college delegations and adult community members. Click here for more information.
    Where do I park and how much does it cost?
    • You will park in Lot 1. Rates are $5 after 4pm on Friday, and $5 all-day Saturday and all-day Sunday. Attendants will accept cash in Lot 1, and you have the option of purchasing a $10 2-day permit on Saturday for both Saturday and Sunday.
    • Parking Reciprocity - UCR extends parking privileges to visitors owning a valid faculty or staff commuter parking permit from other UC campuses. A one-day permit can be obtained at no charge from an Information Kiosk attendant. 
    • Disabled Parking - A disabled visitor may park in any disabled parking space displaying only a DMV-issued disabled parking placard.
    Where can I stay in Riverside and how much are hotels?
    • Visit the Hotels page for more information, including special conference rates.
    What food will be provided?
    • Registered participants will be provided lunch on Saturday and hospitality on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
    Can white people and/or straight people attend?
    • Yes, we welcome our allies. We just ask that everyone attending the conference respect certain closed spaces.
    What are “closed spaces?”
    • Closed spaces such as caucuses bring together people around a particular identity. In order to create a safer space for courageous conversations, we ask only people who self-identify with the space’s intended audience participate. These spaces will be clearly marked in the conference program book.
    Will there be gender neutral restrooms?
    • Yes. Most conference activities will take place in the Highlander Union Building. The 3rd floor will have 2 gender neutral, multi-stall restrooms and 1 single-occupancy restroom. The 2nd floor has 2 gender specific, multi-stall restrooms.
    Will there be ASL interpretation and other accommodations?
    • Professional ASL interpretation will be provided at keynote presentations and possibly for performers. A limited number of volunteer ASL interpreters will be available for individual participants attending workshops. We also can provide golf cart transportation for people with limited mobility, and larger-print programs for people with reduced vision.     My campus wants to host the QPOC Conference in 2012. What do we do?
    • Submit your online proposal form to host here. A decision on who will host will be determined at the UC Riverside conference and announced during the Closing Ceremony on April 10, 2011.
